Goodness, I've been quiet on here and very remiss at writing stuff up. Have been taking a fair few pics though and still reading lots about victorian history. My lovely husband got me a copy of Necropolis for xmas and I am really looking forward to curling up on the sofa with it - book in one hand and pen and notebook in the other.
One of the things I love taking photos of is reflections - be it buildings in rivers, railings in puddles or me in car park mirrors, I love how reflections amplify and distort and also reveal aspects you hadn't noticed before. I also love how the round kind that they have in car park stairwells multiply you.
I mostly use film - as I prefer its tactileness, I like the fact that's an adventure waiting to see if it has come out, though the disappointment when it hasn't is immense, I like the smell of it and I love feeding it onto the sprocket holes. I have lots and lots of film cameras - some v old indeed (from the 1920's) and some comparatively new - I'm currently using a Minolta 7000 SLR from the mid 80's. I absolutely love it.
But I also use a digital camera - I love it's ease and quickness and that I can crop, desaturate and share a picture within a couple of hours of taking it as opposed to having to wait hours. I don't have a smart phone so can't upload pictures instantly but compared to the way I take and process film pictures - 3 hours is pretty instant for me.
2014 is going to consist of lots of picture taking - mostly on film, thanks to a very generous xmas present of lots and lots of film, more writing and researching and a publication or two or more......as they say watch this space for more details...........
